Hello friend and welcome back to the blog. If you live in the US, May 12th (a week ago today) was Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, I was unable to get this post out on time. And while initially I thought of just saving it as draft, I wanted to go ahead and publish it (even though it’s a week late). I pray it is at least an encouragement to someone.
The older I get, the more I’m starting to realize all the significance attached to certain holidays and Mother’s day is no less.
In my life God has blessed with me with a wonderful biological mother and so many adoptive mothers who have been very influential in my daily routine as well as my walk with God.
But as great as Mothers Day is, I want to identify with the person reading this, and is not yet a mother, but longs to be. You are not alone. Perhaps your story is that you’re single and longing to be married with a family. Or maybe yours is that you’re married but praying for the blessings of children. Or maybe yours is that you are a Christian but have lost your mother or don’t have a godly influence of spiritual mother in your life. Whatever your circumstances are, just know that God knows.
Truthfully, I don’t know what the future holds for you or me, but I do know God holds the future. Regardless of your situation, I’d like to remind you that God’s love towards you is steadfast.
Lamentations 3:22-23, states: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” ESV
His love towards us is un-influenced by the failures or shortcomings of an imperfect mother and deeper than the longings of one desiring to be one.
His love is unconditional and His mercies are simply unending -“they are new every morning.”
As humans a lot of our good qualities have limitations especially when people are not acting the way we want them to. And I’m not talking about people that are over stepping our boundaries or simply breaking rules.
However this is not the case with our Heavenly Father. His love is steadfast and His mercy is unending.
The author of the verse continues by saying “His faithfulness as great.”
While the best of our earthily mothers can love us in a way that might remind us of the love of God, it still cannot be compared to that of God’s love.
So I encourage you all regardless of your circumstances and the feelings you have on Mothers Day, to think about the love of the perfect one who inspires the best of our mothers and can console the hearts of those who long to be.
Happy Belated Mother’s Day to my mommy and everyone else out there.
Let's Pray
Dear God, thank you for creating mothers. Thank you for their love towards us and for your steadfast love to us. Though the best of our earthly motherly relationships still lack in comparison to your love towards us, we are still grateful for the wonderful mothers you have given us. May they feel your love and presence today and always. To the ones grieving, may they feel your comfort. To the ones longing, may you be their support. Thank you again for your steadfast love and mercies that never ends. In Jesus name. Amen.
